Steps for Injecting Semaglutide

Gather Your Supplies
You’ll need your medication vial, a syringe, and an alcohol swab.

Wash Your Hands and Prepare the Injection Site
Clean the injection site with the alcohol swab and let the skin air dry.

Draw the Medication
Remove the seal from the top of the vial and clean it with alcohol.
Take off the orange cap from the needle.
Hold the syringe like a pen or dart and insert the needle into the center of the rubber stopper at a 90-degree angle to avoid bending the needle.
Together, turn the vial and syringe upside down.
Make sure the needle tip is in the liquid.
Pull the plunger down past your prescribed dose. Then push it back up to your exact dose—this helps eliminate all air bubbles.
Once you have the correct amount of liquid, remove the entire syringe from the vial.

Subcutaneous Injection
Pinch the injection site to create a firm surface.
Rotate injection spots between both sides of the stomach, the back of the arm, or the thigh. Inject at least two inches away from the belly button on either side.
Insert the needle into the skin between your index finger and thumb at a 90-degree angle.
With slow and steady pressure, push the plunger down until it reaches the bottom.
Gently remove the syringe from your skin.
Dispose of the needle in a sharps container. Subcutaneous injections are minimally painful because the medication is injected just beneath the skin. You can inject into the stomach, thighs, or the back of the arm.
